Stone Bank:

Restoring a Main St. landmark

Bottineau County Bank – built in 1900 of stones carried by glaciers and shaped by pioneer hands – is a Main Street fixture in Bottineau, N.D. Now known as the Stone Bank, the building began to show its age and was near condemnation in 2011. We formed a nonprofit, bought the building, disassembled its back, removed all asbestos and excavated a basement. Now we're building a sturdy frame, plus a new floor and roof in back. Next we'll install a handicap lift and reassemble the stone exterior walls.
